Pretty, Broken Thing comes out November 13, and I’ve been thinking about what I want people to take away from it.
The short answer is that I hope it feels like a journey you took with me.
The album has highs and it has lows. Some songs are about wanting out, some are about looking back, and some are about being happy right where you are. If you listen start to finish, I hope you feel like you went through all of it alongside me.
I didn’t make it with anyone specific in mind. I made it for people who want to listen to some good music. If that’s you, welcome.
The songs that made me feel seen
I know what it’s like when a song meets you right where you are. Growing up, I listened to a lot of Simple Plan, and back then “Perfect” was the one I had on repeat. It gave me a way to say “sorry for messing things up,” and sorry for being messed up.
Now that I’m older, I tend to play “Astronaut.” Sometimes I do wonder if anyone can hear me. A lot of times I still feel all alone, like I’m in my own little world.
Maybe that’s part of why I make music. If one of my songs reaches someone who feels that way too, then neither of us is quite as alone.
